Lovely Skin: A Product Review of Arbonne RE9 System

I started using the full RE9 skincare system (7 pieces total) about two months ago, attempting to prep my skin for all the camera attention on the big day (wedding t-minus 46 days and counting!) I was introduced to the product at a friend’s Arbonne Party, and I’ll be honest, I’m usually very skeptical of any party that requires me to bring my purse (they, of course, tell you that’s “not necessary”…), but a lot of the presentation about the company was interesting. I mean, this Switzerland company has a fully organic product line (do you know what animal by-products are in your skincare creams?) that is completely hypoallergenic (as tested and verified in 100% of participants; if one person has a reaction to their products, back to the lab it goes), with a guarantee of great results (yes, if you are not satisfied, you can send even empty bottles back for a full refund). Of course, this wonderful product comes at a price. A steep price. A $323 price for the full line price.

Being my usual skeptical self, but looking for a skin regimen that would show real results in time for the wedding, I decided to ‘test’ out the product with the travel set of their full line. It would be much less expensive venture to try the whole line, but still enough product to see if it produced any positive changes in my skin. (I’m gonna be honest ladies, sending an empty bottle back in the mail would quickly fall to a low point on my priority list.)

I wish I had taken a “before” photo to compare to an “after” shot for you. I didn’t think I would see such dramatic change in the way my skin looks and feels. But I am here to tell you today, the RE9 skincare regimen will change your skin with a healthier glow. I could see a difference within two weeks of using the product twice daily. I am a full-make-up-every-day kind of gal; I always have been. But after using the RE9 product for a couple of months, I now go many days without wearing any make up at all because I feel comfortable enough in my own skin to do so. It is a really gratifying feeling!

If you do a little research online (which I’m sure all you smart women will do!), you will probably find a lot of positive reviews out there of this product, but notice the interesting trend that several of these ‘reviews’ are posted by Arbonne Consultants. In fact, most of the marketing pieces the company produces includes raving comments only from Arbonne Consultants. Being in the marketing world, to me, that just makes no sense. I mean, how can you trust someone who sells the product for a living? So, to make sure there is no doubt in my sincere support of this product, I am NOT an Arbonne Consultant and I CANNOT place an order for this skincare for you.

I would actually suggest searching on Amazon to make an RE9 purchase. The prices online tend to be substantially lower (full set goes for about $255 on Amazon). I think the full-sized set should probably last about three months, so over the life of your use of the product, it’s relatively reasonable. If you want to try out just one or two of the products and incorporate that into your current regimen, I definitely recommend either the night cream– your skin will thank you every morning– or the instant lifting serum (I like products that you can feel working).

If you decide to test out Arbonne’s RE9 like I did, snap a few photos before you start the regimen, and share a few before / after shots with us! Enjoy healthy skin!

Pump Up The Volume

I have flat hair: flat, limp, lifeless, flat, flat, flat. I’m part Native American and part Asian so I’m sure you can imagine. I usually like my hair, it’s really easy to “fix” in the morning. I just wake up and go. Really, I don’t even brush my hair. But when I see pictures of celebrities with cute puffy ponytails, I get a little jealous.

It’s just such a classy yet simple look. Though I’ve tried to recreate the look, my hair just won’t allow it. No amount of teasing would do the trick. Or so I thought. I recently found a neat little hack that lets me fake the volume. No, not a Bumpit.

Just Say No

Are you ready for the big surprise? You might want to sit down because I am about to blow your mind. PUT A BUN ON IT (Portlandia, anyone? Anyone?). Seriously, just section off some hair on top and clip it aside (later you’ll use this hair to cover the bun). Wherever you want the puff to be, make a small bun and secure with bobby pins or a ponytail holder (it doesn’t really matter because no one will see it). Then go back to that clipped off section and tease it a little to give it some extra volume. Cover the bun with the hair and secure it in a ponytail or half pony – or whatever style you decide.

Voila, you’re done and now you have gorgeous and classy hair and no one will be the wiser.

I took a few photos of the process, but just a warning, they did not turn out well. It was not easy trying to take photos alone with my phone, in a poorly lit bathroom with the other hand trying to hold my hair in place. Not easy at all.

Here's a pic of my limp hair - also it looks like it's time for a trim

This is the part you'll clip and save for later

Bun Time!

Look at that baby bun

Tadaa

Don't use a claw clip - they add way too much extra volume. I'm looking a little like Snooki here.

Yes, before I put the bobby pins in, I thought I’d be smart and put a little claw clip in because they add extra volume. It wasn’t a good idea and I included the picture as a cautionary tale. Lesson of the day: Bobby pins are your friends!

But all in all, isn’t that a neat little trick? I sure think so. And now I will never be jealous of a sweet little puffy ponytail ever again.

Other hair styles is another story …
